What Is the History of Irvine?

Spanish explorers first arrived in the area in 1769, and land was parceled out for missions, forts, and private use. After Mexico won its independence in 1821, the Mexican government took control of the land and started redistributing it to Mexican citizens. During the 1860s and 1870s, American settlers, including four entrepreneurs who would play an important role in the history of Irvine, began purchasing tracts of land in the area. When the railroad extended its line in 1888, it named a station after one of these entrepreneurs, James Irvine. A town formed around the station, which was given the name of Myford to honor Irvine’s son. The town was renamed in 1914, but this town is now named East Irvine. The Irvine that everyone knows today began as a master-planned city for 50,000 people that surrounded the new Irvine campus of the University of California. The first phases were completed in 1970, but when residents voted to incorporate in December 1971, they elected to make the city substantially larger. By 1980, more than 62,000 people made their homes in Irvine, and the population grew to 143,072 by 2000.

What Are the Services You Offer in Irvine?

Peterson Grading & Paving is proud to assist the people of Irvine with an extensive range of asphalt and concrete services.

  • ADA Compliance: An ADA-compliant parking lot can earn you a favorable public image, help you attract and retain customers with mobility issues, and help you avoid potential fines.
  • Asphalt Crack Repair: Cracks may seem so inconsequential that you think they are little more than a cosmetic problem. However, open cracks allow water to infiltrate, placing your entire pavement at risk.
  • Asphalt Milling: Milling machines can remove just a little pavement to correct minor issues, or they can quickly remove all layers of the pavement.
  • Asphalt Overlays: An overlay can be an economical way to make your pavement look and function like new, but the cost is significantly less than a reconstruction.
  • Asphalt Paving: Rapid to construct and easy to maintain, asphalt paving is durable, cost-effective, and attractive.
  • Asphalt Repairs/Patching: For potholes and other damage that cannot be addressed with a crack repair or maintenance procedure, patching is typically the longest-lasting asphalt repair method.
  • Asphalt Sealcoating: Sealcoating rejuvenates the color of faded asphalt, blocks damaging rays from the sun that turn asphalt brittle and dry, and protects against damage from vehicle fluids.
  • Bollard Installation: Whether you need bollards to protect your loading dock or structures, close an area to vehicles, or direct pedestrians along walking trails, we can install bollards to suit your purpose.
  • Concrete Curbs: Aesthetically, concrete curbs can give your property the perfect finishing touch. Functionally, they can help prevent vehicle intrusions, keep grass and weeds in check, or channel water away.
  • Concrete Parking Lots: For some businesses, especially truck stops, heavy equipment dealerships, and freight transfer facilities, concrete parking lots offer the best combination of longevity and expense.
  • Concrete Ramps: Wheelchair ramps may be needed to make your property compliant with the ADA. Ramps at loading docks can make it easier for forklift drivers to load and unload trucks, especially if the loads must be handled from the side rather than the rear.
  • Concrete Repair: Slabs can be cracked, forced out of alignment horizontally, or uplifted; they can also subside. We can help you determine the cause of the damage, then choose and execute the proper repair method.
  • Concrete Sidewalks: Concrete has been the paving material of choice for sidewalks for many decades. Whether you need sidewalks for a new subdivision, an expanding industrial park, or a new apartment complex, we can help.
  • Line Removal: There are a number of ways to remove your line striping, and we are familiar with all of them. We can help you select a method that optimizes safety, efficiency, and aesthetics.
  • Marking Removal: Like painted lines, pavement markings can be removed by using various methods. Depending on where the markings are, how large they are, and the type of paint used to apply them, we can recommend the best method for your property.
  • Parking Lot Maintenance: An effective maintenance program can help you protect the health of your parking lot, make it safer, and enhance its appearance.
  • Parking Lot Signage: Signs play an important role in maintaining order, satisfying legal obligations, and helping people navigate your parking lot.
  • Parking Lot Striping: Neat, professionally painted striping encourages drivers to park correctly, makes your lot more attractive, and helps you comply with the ADA as well as local ordinances.
  • Pavement Markings: The purpose of pavement markings is to provide information through the use of common symbols that can be easily recognized, short words or phrases, or a combination of symbols and words.
  • Shot Blasting: Shot blasting can be an ideal method to use on concrete floors to remove existing paint or coatings, dirt, grime, and surface stains.
  • Warehouse Striping: Effective warehouse striping helps you improve organization, enhance safety, and boost the efficiency of forklift operators and other staff members.
