What Is the History of Costa Mesa?

The land on which Costa Mesa now stands was part of an 1801 Spanish land grant to Don Bernardo Yorba that spanned 62,500 acres. When American settlers began arriving after Mexico ceded California to the United States, they created a nearby town that they named Fairview. However, in 1889, a flood destroyed the railroad that served Fairview, and the community shriveled. Just to the south of Fairview lay the thriving agricultural town of Harper, and Harper would change its name to Costa Mesa in 1920. The Santa Ana Army Air Base helped drive the growth of Costa Mesa during World War II, and many former trainees returned with their families after the war. By 1960, the population reached 37,550, then it more than doubled by 1980. Today, more than 111,000 people make their homes in Costa Mesa.

What Services Does Peterson Grading & Paving Offer in Costa Mesa?

We are a full-service commercial paving contractor offering both asphalt and concrete services. Here are some popular services that we offer in Costa Mesa.

  • ADA Compliance: The federal law requires virtually all parking lots to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The complexity of the ADA means that you need an expert to ensure your full compliance.
  • Asphalt Crack Repair: It is amazing how much severe damage can result from a few neglected cracks. Let us identify and repair any significant cracks at least every six months.
  • Asphalt Milling: Asphalt milling machines can handle a wide variety of tasks. They can remove just a few millimeters of pavement, or they can remove the entire depth quickly, cleanly, and economically. They can also handle some pavement defects, including certain drainage problems.
  • Asphalt Overlay: An overlay can be a fast and economical way to obtain the appearance and functionality of a new pavement without the associated inconvenience and expense.
  • Asphalt Paving: Whether you need a new pavement or a reconstruction, asphalt paving is an attractive and cost-effective choice.
  • Asphalt Repairs/Patching: Some types of pavement damage require more than just a simple crack repair. Asphalt patches can repair alligatored asphalt, potholes, and other types of severe damage.
  • Asphalt Sealcoating: Sealcoating is a highly effective and extremely economical way to protect asphalt pavements from damage. It will also enhance their appearance.
  • Bollard Installation: Whether you want to add architectural interest, prevent vehicle incursions, or close certain areas to vehicles, bollards can be an ideal way to meet your needs.
  • Concrete Curbs: Curbs give your property a finished look, but they also help channel runoff and deter vehicle incursions.
  • Concrete Parking Lots: For parking lots that support numerous 18-wheelers or heavy construction equipment, concrete is often the best paving option.
  • Concrete Ramps: Concrete ramps can make it easier for forklift operators to travel between elevations. They can also provide pedestrians with an easier travel path, help you meet ADA regulations, or allow trucks to back up to loading docks.
  • Concrete Repairs: This category includes crack repairs, mudjacking to lift sunken slabs, and the removal and replacement of severely damaged or misaligned slabs.
  • Concrete Sidewalks: Large cities, universities, small towns, and apartment complexes are just a few places you can find long-lasting concrete sidewalks.
  • Epoxy Coating: Epoxy coatings can transform concrete floors into works of art, or the coatings can define specific areas for safety or navigation.
  • Line Removal: Removing lines helps prevent confusing ghost lines, allows for crisper replacement lines, and permits you to reconfigure your parking lot layout if your needs change.
  • Marking Removal: Removing obsolete or damaged pavement markings helps eliminate confusion and helps your contractor deliver superior replacements.
  • Parking Lot Maintenance: Automate your parking lot maintenance with a professionally designed and executed plan to ensure that you do not overlook critical treatments.
  • Parking Lot Signage: Comply with local codes, make your parking lot safer, and comply with the ADA by installing the proper signs.
  • Parking Lot Striping: Show drivers how and where to park as well as where they should not park. Effective striping will also allow you to provide more parking spaces, enhance safety, and mitigate confusion.
  • Pavement Markings: Certain pavement markings are required by the ADA or local ordinances. Other types help you maintain an orderly flow of traffic, protect pedestrians, or reduce the chances of fender-benders.
  • Shot Blasting: Professional shot blasting is a clean, safe, and effective way to remove paint, grime, coatings, or surface stains.
  • Warehouse Striping: If you want to make your warehouse more efficient, safer, and better organized, you might want to consider striping it.
